When I started my fish collecting I bought a whole set of aeronautics charts which show the rivers, lakes, towns, roads, powerlines, and lots of gory details. That was in 1974. It seems to me that all of south america was in eleven maps (excuse me charts). Might be worth looking at. IMO there are bound to be maps available on cd or capable of putting on cd as a download from the Internet.
