Re: Breeding T. candidi

Hello jay.

There many reasons why fism may eat their eggs but in my experience
they eat their eggs when the conditions are not favorable and they
will not survive anyway. In my experiences candidi's are excellent
parents and once you get things in order your in for a real treat. A
few answers here will greatly assist in the diagnosis. What was the
Ph? DH? KH? and temperture? The two critical factors will be your Ph
and your DH. I spawn my candidi's at 4.5, to acheive this, even my
water that comes out of my well is not suitable. So I have a 30 gallon
barrel that I let sit with a few stockings full of peat moss. This brew
gives me the water in the proper range and the peat has a mild anti
microbial effect to benefit the eggs and the tea colored water makes
the fish feel more secure because of the shade it provides. I use this
water for all my problem fish like T.candidi or D.maculata. You might
also consider moving the pair to their own tank so you can get good
production. The funny think about candidi's is once they have the
water with the correct values they really do breed like guppys and
once they get going you'll get alot of spawns out of your pair.I have
been line breeding this fish for a few years now so if you want any
other info e-mail me and i'll be glad to share my experiences with
you.Good luck Jay and let us know how things pan out.
