Someone somewhere once stated that they use black garden mulching sheets (it's actually called something else but I can't remember what right now). It's the stuff you lay down in your garden beds and cover with mulch to prevent weeds. It's designed to let rain water pass through so it will still work with the UG.
I've never tried it though.
