Apistos in nature like to live in shallow water
and they like the leaf litter on the bottom. Ask Kathy or Erik or anybody
else who tried to catch them down in SA. That's how they like it in nature
and that's how they do it in the aquarium.
My cacatoides are the happiest when they hang
out under large Anubia leaves waiting for some goodies to come by. My male
is totally inconspicuous, although he must be active sometimes because my
females have fry. He is the "shadiest" character of
all!
If you want them to come out and even attack the food from
your fingers, grow lots of water sprite and duckweed on the surface. I've
got borelliis that will try to chew my fingers off!
