Re: New Apisto's

Phil we are all hooked and have had to learn the hard way. When you enter
the world of cichlids it is a very different ball game. They are highly
intelligent and if you have a pair they will indeed breed and if they are
housed in a community tank can cause quite a bit of upset towards their
tankmates in an effort to defend their fry. You have chosen two wonderful
cichlid species but in my opinion I would have the apistos housed in a
species tank.
Phil's questions:
>>4. The Apistos are not very aggressive eaters. They wait for food to
>filter down to their corner.<<

The reason for this is they are more than likely frightened to come out for
fear of being attacked by the kribs.

>>They never mingle with my tetras.<<

Tetras swim mostly in upper and mid levels of the tank. Apistos are bottom
dwellers and seldom swim above 6" from the floor of the tank.

>>Are tetras good aquarium mates for them or not?<<

Yes if breeding is not of any importance to the owner. No if it is your
intention to breed and let the parents rear their fry.

>>5. I would like to add 4 angels. Is this a good or bad idea? <<

A bad idea, too many cichlids in such a small tank.

Sorry if my suggestions are a bit harsh but I have been where you are now
and very quickly learned the errors of my ways.
Good luck,
Helen
