Why would anyone leave Hagerstown, its beautiful swans, and its mountains to
live in San Francisco? But as far as the water changing, yes, that is what
happens during high table and low water table. Francine probably has a
granite/feldspar base under a calcerous sedimentary layer. When the water
table rises it gets up into the limestone-type stuff, and when the table
falls, the water softens because it is not exposed to the hardening stuff
long enough to be affected by it.
