But as far as the water changing, yes, that is what happens during high table and low water table. Francine probably has a granite/feldspar base under a calcerous sedimentary layer. When the water table rises it gets up into the limestone-type stuff, and when the table falls, the water softens because it is not exposed to the hardening stuff long enough to be affected by it.
