zoiks, zounds, and yipes! This is going to sound a lot like JohnW's post yesterday: I got up this morning, and I was checking out the denizens before feeding. I noticed the male was hanging out by the driftwood, much higher in elevation than he is wont to do. Then I noticed one of the females, who has hardly showed her face since being brought home ~2 weeks ago - she was hovering near the ground in front of a rock overhang. I saw her make a quick dash at the male and then return to her spot. Then I noticed the tetras were all in the far third of the tank. How odd, I thought - they have individual territories distributed across the whole volume of the tank. I looked back at the female. She sure is yellow. Now's my chance to get a good look at her. Nice dark lateral line (sortof a dashed line, really) and super- and sub-orbital stripe; dorsal blotches; caudal spot; front few rays of dorsal fin black; and wow, front half of her ventral fins are really black. Never noticed that before. Look at her fan the ground. Hey, what's that stuff moving around...oh...my...god! I've got babies! I had _wondered_ if that's what she was doing back in that hole behind the plant. <in a near frenzy> I'd been meaning to get a sponge put on the intake of my filter, now I'm really stuck...ok, wife, give me some nylons. I quickly put the toe of an old stocking on the intake. Checked the filter box - nope, nobody there. Initial estimate: somewhere around 30. I must tell you I really didn't want to come to work today. Hopefully Mom will keep the wolves at bay; I have pretty good confidence she will, simply judging by the fact that she and the fry were there this morning. I fed the tank their regular food, so maybe the rest of the crew won't get hungry for fry-on-a-stick. Meanwhile Dad's got another lady, hopefully she'll keep him occupied for a while. whew, well maybe I can get some work done today...NOT. I've got to research fry on the Krib now; how fast do they grow, when can I take them to the shop, (and how), etc......... <cigars to everyone> thanks for listening <grin> Andrew ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the apistogramma mailing list, apisto@listbox.com.
