Just about any leaf will excrete/leach organic acids.  You can expect 
magnolias to do the same.

Just to be clear, there are two different trees in the US refered to as 
magnolia.  The one that lives in northern climes flowers heavily in the 
spring.  The one in the south grows significantly larger.  Which magnolia are 
we talking about here?
