HI guys, this is a club that needed an emergency speaker for next week, Wens. I know heather may be interested, I may help out/carpool. Erik is gone on business (I think). Note: I just realized that I indicated the incorrect date on my initial e-mail. Our meeting is on Wednesday Jan 27, as you will see below. It sounds like you will not be available. We meet the last Thursday of the month (In this cas, Jan 27at 7:00PM at the Boeing Recreation Center in Kent. There are about 15 active members. Freshwater is in the majority, but we have quite a few salt waters and several ponds. The club was swimming on it's side in December of 1997. The club President must be a Boeing employee and there were few takers. My 15 year old daughter is a fish addict and I didn't want the club to fail so I agreed to the job. I am really stupid when it comes to fish, but I can keep the club going so I must be worth something. Our biggest problem (and this is endemic to clubs of all types) was quality programs. In 1997 we had next to nothing. Last year we had speakers from 3 pet stores, a speaker from the Marine Conference, a field trip to a fish wholesaler, a field trip to the UW fish collection and several internal club activities. I wanted to start this year with a speaker from the company that sets up and maintains mondo tanks in public places (i.e. hospitals). The business owner I contacted wanted to tell me at great length why I wouldn't want to hear about this topic. The next fellow I talked to pled stage fright. We have had speakers with slides, view foils, video, bare hands! We can provide any type of equipment support. Let me know what you need! Tell us about your club, your plant sale, show us anything you find interesting. Our members are knowledgable, but are very down to earth and friendly. (Well we do have some engineers who lack communication skills, but they are great folks.) I obviously have to firm up plans. Call and we can talk, including directions.
