RE: Memberships, expiry, cards, etc

Well, I'm admittedly the new kid on the block, so I need some help to 
understand this.  What do you do when someone "discovers" the club say, in 
October (like my family did) and decides to join in Nov/Dec?  Do you prorate 
the dues to match whatever portion of the club-year is remaining in order to 
put every member on the same schedule?

I'm in favor of the "once a year" mode for everyone. We do that locally
and nationally for our doggie club and that seems to work very well for
everyone.
Also I don't think I've gotten a valid membership card for quite a
while?  Hmmmm...
