Subject: GSAS and Israel.
Greetings from Israel,
I'm sure you've never heard of me before, so I'll introduce myself. My name is Rotem Guttman. I'm a 20 year old aquarium enthusiast from Tel Aviv, Israel. What I wanted to find out is if you know of any larger organizations (even international ones) that organize aquarium groups such as GSAS. I know of no similar organization in Israel, (Much to my dismay, maybe if I had known of one I could have gotten some advice before setting up my first tank. Back then I didn't even know what cycling was, other then on a bike! Poor guppies.) Anyway, now I'm in the process of purchasing my first tank of over 100 US gallons. :) Moving up in the world.
Well, as you've noticed I tend to ramble. Getting back on track here, I wanted to get your advice on finding such a group here, and if one doesn't exist, starting one. The LFS around here don't know of one. I've also talked to the government agencies involved with wildlife, and they didn't mention anything of the sort either. (I was looking for information on indigenous freshwater fish species in Israel, took me 2 days of phone calls to track down the correct research center and get some advice, only to find out that the leading authority on freshwater fish in Israel is a professor at the university that I live across the street from!)
Anyway, I would appreciate any advice you can give me. Thank you in advance,
