GSAS Summer Picnic

Hi Paul and Cheryl,

At the Board meeting this week, we briefly discussed the summer picnic and I have a few questions to run by you.

1)       First of all, THANK YOU so much for volunteering to host and chair the picnic.  From what I’ve been told, it’s been several years since the club has actually been able to have an August picnic.

2)       I have in my notes that you were considering two dates – the 3rd and 4th Saturdays in August – that would be August 16th or August 23rd.  Someone on the Board thought that Seafair was usually the first Saturday, but you had indicated that it was on August 9th, which is the second Saturday – and I do remember that you wanted to avoid any conflict with Seafair.

3)       In the past, the picnic has been a pot-luck barbeque.  The club will be providing plates, plastic-ware, napkins, cups, and drinks (No Alcohol).  We also discussed providing the meat or having everyone bring their own to be cooked there.  I don’t personally think that having everyone bring their own meat to be cooked there is a good idea UNLESS we have several grills available.  We could have several people bring their grills to add to the chaos.  My personal opinion is that the club should provide the hamburger, hot dogs, and chicken to be cooked on one (or possibly two) grills.  This discussion at the Board meeting led to a NOVEL IDEA!  - Let’s ask the Winchesters how THEY want to do it!

4)       Regardless of how you decide to handle the barbeque-specifics, we will have the membership sign up for and bring the remaining fare – e.g. buns, baked beans, salads, condiments, pickles, deserts, etc.

5)       What else might you need - such as extra chairs, folding tables, supplies for kid’s activities, etc.

Would you please discuss these questions and let us know your ideas before the next board meeting (which is on May 22nd ) by replying to my direct email address rick-rose@attbi.com .

Thanks again!
