Hi Kate, Your email poses a lot of questions and issues. I'll try to address them all. 1) Any raffle would have to be approved by the Board. To my knowledge, there has been no discussion about having a raffle at the October meeting. If you would like, I will email the Board and we could discuss it and get back to you. 2) Could you possibly be referring to the door-prize (what we call fish-of-the-month) instead of a raffle? If so, Dave and Bob are in charge of buying some killies to be used for the door prize. Since you mentioned that you've been in contact with Dave, I suspect this may be what you are referring to. 3) Dues must be paid with cold, hard, cash. (If the club buys killies from you to use for the door-prize, then you could, of course, turn around and use that money to pay your dues.) 4) In the past, we have had members bring fish to give away or sell. In my experience, this has always been handled privately, after the meeting (not as part of the "official" meeting.) We do usually make a quick announcement about it during the meeting, explaining who people should talk to if they are interested. 5) Another option would be if you are interested in donating some killies to the club for a mini-auction - that has also been successful (and much appreciated) in the past. For example, June donated a bunch of plants to the club for a mini-auction last year. With the proceeds, the club was able to buy two copies of Crystal Castleman's new plant book/catalog. This, also, would need to be coordinated with the board ahead of time in order to make sure that there is enough time available/allotted during the meeting for the auction. (Given that we have elections in addition to Dave's presentation this month, I'm not sure if there would be enough time, but that would be up to the Board to decide. If you are interested in pursuing this, please let me know ASAP.) 6) If you want to prepare a handout, you will need to coordinate that with Dave, since he is the presenter. The same would be true for bringing live food starters - please coordinate with Dave. 7) As you know, I send out a promo-email before each monthly meeting. After the questions/issues above have been addressed by the Board (regarding having a raffle, etc.) if we do end up having a raffle (or even if you were referring to the door-prize,) I would suggest that you send me a paragraph of instructions/concerns and I will include it with my regular, promo-email. Thanks for your enthusiasm and willingness to participate in the meeting. Please feel free to contact myself or any of the other board members if you have any other questions or concerns. I am wondering if I can pay my dues with more fish, since they are up. Also do you want me to bring fish to sell? I don't want to put more in the raffle than people will actually want to bring home. What is the ettiquette for all of this? :) I am from Portland where they always sell fish at their meetings. It gets kind of crazy. I have pairs of killies that are easy for beginners, some that are harder that I would rather offer for sale as I think newbies might kill them, and single males for the community tank. The easy pairs and singles I think are suitable for raffle. Also will prepare a handout covering their basic handling in case people don't pay attention to everything at the meeting. And... we are bringing live food starters, and I was thinking of emailing the list a couple nights before the main event to let people prepare if they want to enter the raffle. They will need to get a tank or kritter keeper ready with some live or fake plants and aged water, it would be good if they set this up before the meeting. Just going by my own (stressful) experience. What do you think? Also I have angelfish and bettas coming out my ears, I have seen people bring fish to sell, what is the etiquette on OT fish? The bettas are free and the angels a buck. I could do it on the honor system with a jar for dollars and bags of fish in the back. I am encouraging angel buyers to come to my house though, I don't like bagging fish that I might have to bring back home ;) Kate B Oly WA ------------------ To unsubscribe from this list, e-mail majordomo@thekrib.com with "unsubscribe gsas-board" in the body of the message.
