RE: Committee Chair - Fish-o-the-Month - Approved

Hi Sandy,

I am at a complete loss as to how to respond to this email.  I’ve read and re-read it to see where you might have misunderstood something that I said and I can’t find anything that sounds unfriendly.  I honestly don’t remember being surprised when you volunteered – other than I was quite surprised (and happy) at how many members were all of a sudden coming forward to volunteer for this or that – it was a real “break through” and a nice change from the previous year when so many of the committee chairs were vacant.  If you ask any one of the board members, they’ll verify that I am not afraid to express my opinion at a board meeting and I have no problem voting my conscience regardless of how anyone else is voting.  So, when I said in the email that you were approved UNANIMOUSLY, that’s exactly how the vote went (myself included.)  We are all very happy to have your help and appreciate your willingness to serve as chairperson of fish-o-the-month.  When I mentioned in my email that I had heard that you “weren’t going to be able to attend anyway,” it was in light of the short notice that I had given you for procuring the fish and to let you know that it would not be a problem as we had the base covered.

Rick

Hi Rick, do you have a problem with me doing the fish of the month?  I noticed surprise when I mentioned it to you at the meeting.  And the tone of this email is not so friendly either.  FYI the only reason I am missing this meeting is that I HAVE TO go to CPR classes for my job.  Both Tuesday and Wednesday night.  I have held this position before.  And I may bitch and gripe about this and that about the club, but that does not mean I would turn my back when asked for help.  I have been in this club for over 5 years.  I have also been to board meetings with only 2 other people.  So I have seen this club in the bad times and the good.  I also like what I see now and I hope the club keeps going on it's upswing in popularity.  Do not stess out about getting notices out late, no one blames you.  Your little baby daughter is so very cute, you must be so worried about her health.  I am sure it is nerve wracking worrying about her.  I hope she is doing good and everything is going along good with the doctors and surgery and everything.  She is such a little angel.   Sandy

Hi Sandy,

Thank you so much for volunteering to help with the fish-o-the-month program.  It’s really great to see so many of our members want to get involved!  The Board met and unanimously approved you as chairperson.

I don’t believe this position has been “officially” filled in the recent past, so you may have some questions for which we won’t have immediate answers, but we tried to anticipate some of them at the last meeting.

·         In general there should be 4 bags containing 2-6 fish/bag (depending on the species)

·         Each month, the Board, in consideration of the meeting topic, will decide what kind(s) of fish to use as fish-o-the-month and establish a budget for that month.  This information will be given to you, as the committee chair person.

·         If you are aware of someone in the club that keeps a particular kind of fish that has been requested by the Board, please feel free to solicit donations and/or buy fish from club members when the species is appropriate.  One tool for communicating such a need is the members email list.

I do apologize for the late notice; my schedule has been pretty hectic lately with the new baby and her health problems – I would normally have taken care of these communications much earlier.  However, I saw in an email from Bob that you weren’t going to be able to attend this month’s meeting anyway.  I believe several people (current and former board members) have already made plans to cover this month.

Congratulations and Thanks!
