For all you new Board members and Cheryl I'll give a little history of
this, FYI...
"Traditionally" Scott and Victoria brought a ham, paid for by the club,
as the main dish. When I became involved, I asked if it would be
possible for me to pick up an alternate meat as a choice for those,
such as myself who do not eat pork for religious or other reasons. I
knew of a great place that made fantastic smoked turkey (whole pieces
or whole birds with bones and all, NOT lunch meat style slices), so I
agreed to pick it up and bring it, if the club would reimburse me as
they did Scott and Vic. for the ham. That was a "go" so for the next
few years I did that. Later, smoked turkey became more expensive so I
substituted for smoked chicken, which was also very good! BTW, I never
brought "barbecued" chicken (not nearly as good, but would be O.K.)...I
think I found over the years, that with the ham, 2 lbs. of smoked
turkey or chicken, was sufficient.
The place has since changed owners and I'm not sure if they exist. I
believe last couple of years I went to a great place way down in Des
Moines to get it (I live by U.W.). (I think Bob knows of this place).
In any case I'd like to see this continue, but would rather have
someone else take care of this now. Then I could have Gail make one of
her great side dishes to bring!!
