I’ve been in contact with Shawn at GPAS regarding the Aquarium Show and how GSAS might be able to help this year. Although things started out well with somebody named Kevin getting things organized early, Kevin had to “step down” and since then, details/information have been difficult to obtain. The rest of the GPAS board is having to “step in” and I think they have bigger issues to deal with.
The dates are Friday – Sunday, September 10th – 12th. The location is the same as before – at the Ramada Inn, Portland Airport.
Here is a list of what they’ve suggested so far…
1. Show sponsorship. We have most classes open at this point. The preferable option would be to get someone to sponsor a general class and we can fill in where needed. 2. Advertising in local fish stores and other venues (i.e. Seattle Aquarium). We can provide the flyers or electronic data to be posted to bulletin boards or in the stores if you can scout out the locations. 3. Letting your membership know about what's happening via telephone or email (I know you are on summer hiatus right now) 4. At the show site we could use help with our silent auction running Saturday and Sunday. We plan to use this mechanism to replace our 'Quick Sale' table, but need someone to help with the execution. 5. If anyone from Seattle wants to commit to a block of time for staffing greeter table or anything else that would be great.
At one point, Kevin, when he was still organizing the event, suggested that GSAS might be willing to “Host an evening in the Hospitality Suite,” which I thought would be an excellent way to both promote GSAS and also be a very significant help to GPAS. Unfortunately, Shawn and the others on the board don’t seem to know what Kevin might have been talking about and they have not been helpful in supporting the idea.
Ø I plan to volunteer, myself, to take a block of time on the greeter table. (#5 above)

Ø I am trying to get details and “electronic data” to be published in the August Picnic Brochure (#’s 2 and 3 above.)
