I caught the later email that said this is a non-issue, but since we're
discussing what is/should be our "official policy," we need to add this very
common "exception."  

Sometimes it is in the best interest of the person/club that is paying for
the airfare to BEG the passenger to come an extra day early OR stay an extra
day later in order to get a better airline ticket price.  In this situation
that used to be fairly common, it is cheaper to pay for an extra night's
HOTEL accommodations than it is to pay the higher airline fare for a very
brief stay.

Other than that exception, I fully agree that we should only pay for one
night's lodging.

Question on GSAS policy regarding rental of hotel rooms for visiting 
speakers; Seems like there has been either an official or unofficial "one 
night only" policy and I'd like to either confirm or disprove that.
I received a phone message from Tom today. He is planning to come up here 
early, either Sunday or Monday, which would mean staying an additional one 
or two nights. His message is a bit ambiguous as to whether he expects the 
club to pay for the extra nights. My own feeling is that we should pay for 
only one night. That's all we've ever done in my experience. I'm looking 
for a "gut feeling" amongst past and present board members as to how this 
should be handled, if indeed it even comes up. Right now I'm planning to 
tell him that we have a one night only policy when I talk to him this 
evening. Please comment on this matter.
