Dear Bob and Judy
I am so sorry that I did not get back to you until now. I was so caught
up with my senior paper along with college aps and other school work that
I have not been checking my email until today and therefore, did not see
your reply.
To answer your questions, I've been keeping fish for about seven years
now and the fish that I have or have had includes oscars, parrots,
gouramies, killies, guppies, bettas, neons, cardinals, plecos, corys,
goldfish, barbs, pristella tetras, swordtails, platies, pretty much
everything and currently, I'm keeping a 100 gal discus tank, and a 45 gal
oscar tank.
Since I enjoy having a community tank, I decided that it would be best to
get the fifth grade kids that I will teach (at Ardmore Elementary in
Bellevue at the end of Feb.) a community tank in their own classroom,
both for recreational and educational purposes. It would be boring just
to learn about fish keeping and not have a hands on learning experience.
I've talked to my old fifth grade teacher and we already have a 45 gal
tank available, and the rest of the setup will require:
Gravel
Air pump
Heater 150-200 watts
Plants
Filter
fish
and any other decorations like bog wood or rocks, etc.
For my other part of the project in which I will be breeding fish for
pesonal learning, I will be breeding bettas, guppies, purple cichlids,
and some type of killifish probably gardneries. So what I also need
are:
2 small five or ten gallon tanks
sponge filters for the fry stage
and heaters preferably submersible since the water level will be
low
and any floating plants.
Again I thank you for your help, and I'm really sorry that I did not get
back to you on time. Anything you can give me will help go towards the
two hundred dollars on fish and equipments I estimate the project will
cost.
PS. My phone number is 425 861-7902 if you want to contact me for more
questions or I can call you if you give me your number. And thanks for
the website.
Thanks a lot
Thai

- Hello Thai.
- Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Our club has had to deal with
some
- urgent issues recently.
- At our last board meeting we talked about your project. We would like
to
- get a few more details from you if we could. What equipment and
materials
- would you need to set the tank up (size of tank, need for a stand,
etc.).
- Have you arranged for a grade school class to work with?
- It sounds like you have some fishkeeping experience. How long have
you been
- keeping fish, and what kind?
- At this time I can't promise you any financial help from the club
because
- that would be something we would have to vote on at a board meeting
and the
- next one isn't until Jan. 20, and you probably want to get started on
your
- project if you haven't started already. What I can do is to solicit
- donations of equipment, material (gravel, plants, fish etc.) from
members
- for your project.
- Here's another idea. You could join the Greater Seattle Aquarium
Society,
- which would give you access to our member chat email list, where you
could
- explain what you're doing and ask for guidance and advice from other
- members. You would also have access to our club library (we hope to
have an
- on-line list of our library books soon). Just go to our website
- (www.gsas.org)
and print out the application. Mail it to me (5420 49th AVE
- SW Seattle WA 98136). I'll kick in the $10 dues.
- Hope to hear from you soon
