Bob,
Sorry for the dealy in responding, but my kids have been sick (stomach flu) and I'm just now getting back up to speed. Anyway, I'll prepare two presentations for the 14th, a slightly longer and more technical one on endangered Mexican livebearers and a slightly shorter travelogue on collecting in the rainforests of Chiapas (extreme southern Mexico). At this point, it looks like my wife will be coming with me, and we will probably arrive on Sunday the 11th and return on Saturday the 18th. Should I buy my airline ticket and then have you reimburse me later?
I'd appreciate any recommendations you might have on hotels and points of interest. We hope to spend some time with city attractions (Pike Place Market, Pioneer Square, Space Needle, etc.), and then maybe a day or two driving around the surrounding countryside (Olympic Nat'l Park, Puget Sound islands, Mt. Ranier?). Any recommendations? Any nice places that the average tourist might not hear about? I was in Seattle for a few days about 9 years ago for a conference, but it will be the first time for my wife. And being at a conference, I only had a couple of half days to see the city, so my experiences are pretty limited.
Looking forward to my visit.
John

Hi John
If you could add an additional "travelog" presentation as you have
suggested to the Mexican livebearers presentation that would be greatly
appreciated. People are always interested in that sort of thing. Something
informal would be just fine. I asked around and found that there is
definitely some club member interest in something like that.
We meet on the campus of Seattle Pacific University, in a building called
Weter Hall. The SPU campus is fairly well signed and easy to get to. We
would probably meet you at a restaurant for dinner before the meeting
anyway. There is a map and directions on our website (www.gsas.org). I
would be glad to mail you driving directions and maps if you like.
There are lots of things to do in the Seattle/western Washington area and
we can help with any information on local sightseeing, etc.
