That's an interesting option, having the whole blasted thing online. I
hadn't even thought of doing that. I just put it there for the board to
take a peek at.
I think the idea with the non-paper newsletter is that you're supposed to
copy it to your local machine. Technically Steev isn't supposed to be
mailing that private link out at all, but e-mailing the PDF itself. I
haven't made a fuss about it because these days that bandwidth isn't even
a blip on my system's radar.
I have typically kept the links up for two months, though. I'm surprised
to hear you've had problems.

Given that I think we've only ever sold 2 or so of the CD's, I dunno.
Still, though, I could see us offering the password to the online archive
for $5 or $10, including the DVD.
Another possibility is to make the author index and cover index available
to the public so they can see what the archive and current issues CONTAIN
(see the AGA equivalent here at http://www.aquatic-gardeners.org/tag.html
), but password-protect the actual content: current members can read the
current year, and members who pay for the archive can read the older
material? Might not be too bad.
