Re: [GSAS-board] FW: Aquarium club talk

Sounds good to me. You might want to suggest that she do a bit about the
Vanc Aquarium as well, since she works there and all (or I could do a small
bit with my pictures from our trip there...)

Are you the Club Guy In Charge Of Contacting Speakers? I couldn't remember
if we had such a person or not, who can speak lucidly about expenses we pay
and whatnot, because I've no clue.

Dear Phil,

Thank you! Jennifer sounds like the perfect speaker and in light of all the
cichlid frenzy this season I would still like to invite her. I am working
with Kathy to get the details of Ad and Wayne but my impression is that the
talks are widely different and personal and just happen to take place in the
same part of the world. I have a letter drafted below to flesh out the
details but would like to check with you and the board prior to sending
it...

"Dear Jennifer,

Thank you for hosting Phil at the big Vancouver auction as he has since done
everything in his power to make use feel guilty for not going. At the last
board meeting we also realized that we were short a January speaker and Phil
volunteered to find an INTERNATIONAL speaker. The club is more than happy
to host you with an allowance for travel and lodging.

For this year, our dear friend Kathy Olson has already committed two cichlid
speakers.

* Local member Jeff Schulstrom in March for 1/2 talk on importing to share
with home show (not confirmed)
* Ad Konings in May whom likes Lake Tanganyika Sand dwellers
* Wayne Leibold in June on is also a cichlid guy but will likely talk
specialization
* (Plant auction in Feb and general in April)

I appreciate your willingness to speak on short notice in January and your
topic sounds awesome. Our only concern is that the cichlid talks are every
other month. While I think this is great (I ended up with an Mbuna tank
after the last talk and have been told 'Mbuna are the gate way to
Tanganyikans'), the concern is to provide details (or nudges) to those in
the club that are not yet keeners. I will be nailing down the topics for
Jeff, Ad, and Wayne in the next few days and value your input.

-Paul
