ACA 2001

If your idea of fun is spending 2-4 days during July in New Jersy watching
talks, hanging out with other big fish geeks, including an entire day of
nothing but cichlids for auction, then you should seriously consider the
ACA. I've gone to three of them over the last 6 years. Continental has
occasional fare specials on their direct flight Seattle -> Newark.

Liberty State Park <http://libertystatepark.com/> has plenty to see and do.
View the old railway station that started the last leg of the journey
transporting immigrants throughout our great country; cruise to the Statue
and climb her mighty staircase to her crown; cruise to Ellis Island
<http://www.ellisisland.org/>, tour the museum of immigration and locate
your family's entry into this great democracy The American Family
Immigration History Center TM is currently under construction which will use
state-of-the-art interactive computer technology to bring the immigration
records on ancestors who came to this country as long as a century ago to
one's fingertips... to be completed in Spring 2001. This tour is not to be
missed; the cost is $25.00

Tour Two - NY Aquarium & South Street Seaport
The NY Aquarium <http://www.wcs.org/zoos/aquarium/masterframe.html> is
situated on 14 acres by the sea in Coney Island, Brooklyn. The New York
Aquarium is home to thousands of fish and a multitude of marine creatures,
including beluga whales, sharks, walruses and dolphins. The aquarium is the
longest operating facility of its kind in the country, and continues to be a
leader in aquatic science and conservation-related research. NJAS' own Dr.
Paul V. Loiselle is the Curator of Fresh Water fishes. In addition to all
the Aquarium has to offer, we will receive a behind the scenes tour of the
facility
>From the aquarium, we will travel to The South Street Seaport
<http://www.nyctourist.com/seaport1.htm>. Located on the waterfront in
historic downtown Manhattan, the shops and restaurants that today fill the
historic buildings have created -- in spirit and activity -- a contemporary
version of the original Seaport community. South Street Seaport is home to
over 120 exciting shops, restaurants, eateries, and unique pushcart filled
with the distinctive gifts, tastes, and styles of New York City. The Seaport
boasts stores like Ann Taylor, Talbot's, Brookstone, The Body Shop, Coach
and J. Crew. The South Street Seaport Museum, founded in 1967, is an
integral part of the Seaport community -- in fact, the architectural
landmarks that line the streets and the historic ships docked at the
Seaport, which form the "Street of Ships," comprise much of the Museum. This
maritime museum reflects New York City's past glory as a port town. The cost
of this fun-filled day in New York is $30.
