Re: Frog and pleco's

By "Rasping" do you mean sucking on the frog? If so, he was most likely sucking off the frogs Slim Coat. I wouldn't be surprised if this wasn't his first time doing it, it was just your first time noticing it. Most of the time a pleco (Bristlenose or not, I've seen Commons do the same thing) will never attack a fish for food unless they are very hungry. But once they taste slime coat they seem to prefer it more over their regular diet. If that?s your case he will most likely continue to attack victims. It?s like once a bear kills someone, it can be known to do it again, because it?s easy and tasty. Well if that was what you meant by ?rasping? hope this helps. Aaron.

Noted the following behavior with a little pleco and wondered if anybody
else has observed them to take exception to tank mates. I know they can
fight among them selves over territory and with my spawning pair, the male
is definitely "top" fish of the two.
Re: Bristlenose pleco and African frogs.
Small frog in guppy tank with small Bristlenose. Observed the frog and
bristlenose rushing at each other over the bloodworm dinner. The frog was
suprisingly assertive but Pleco more persistent and larger. Finally the
Pleco started landing on top of the frog and "rasping" him. A few times of
that and the frog retired from the field. Wish I had one of those neat
little video cameras like Erik's to capture it. The next day I observed that
the Pleco seemed to have developed an attitude toward the frog and would
jump on him and "rasp" even with no food present. The frog looked to me to
be in danger so moved him to another tank.
Is this normal or do I have a rouge bristlenose here?
June
