Subject: Discus Behavior
Date: Sun, 19 Oct 2003 11:22:04 -0700
I have two discus. One is bullies the other into the corner, and won't let
her eat. She is smaller and thinner than him. So, one day, I netted him,
which was quite easy, since he follows me around in the tank. I kept him in
solitary confinment for a few days, so the other could eat in peace. Then,
I let him out, and he proceeded to do the same bad behavior that put him in
jail in first place. I netted him again. Then let him out after awhile. He
still bullied the other and wouldn't let her eat. So, I put the net in
again, and this time, he swam away whenever it got near him. He seemed to
get frustrated and angry with the net and/or my hand, as he would display
his dark vertical bars and become more brilliantly colored. The other fish
was not the least bit afraid of the net, and ate while I kept him away from
her. I tried to catch him, but couldn't. So, I decided to put her in the
net chamber, which was easy. Then, the net fell down while moving the lid
around the next day, and she got out. Now both of them won't go near the
net.
