RE: Kelvin options

The Indoor Sun Shoppe http://www.indoorsun.com/ mostly stocks bulbs in the
5000/5500K range or up in the 10,000K range. They specialize in SAD light
treatment, growing desert plants under high light, carnivorous plants, (and,
heck, perhaps more kinds of indoor plants.) They've very knowledgeable and very
helpful. The store apparently gets a lot of reef people looking for high light,
but not so many freshwater hobbyists.

As for other bulbs, though, they have big catalogs from lamp suppliers at the
front desk and can special-order just about anything for you at no extra charge.
I seem to recall paying in the $70-85 range, but it's been over a year so I'd
check their prices in the store for accuracy. All advice I've heard is that
plants grow better under the 5000-range lamps, but with all my orange rock and
gravel I personally prefer something a little bluer for display, so I go for the
6000-7000 range.

I have too much light on my rainbow tank now at 500 watts for a 125g; I'm going
to go with lower-wattage bulbs this time, to try to get java ferns like the one
June keeps giving away. :-)

Cheers,
Darcey H

Dear Darcey:

What Kelvin are the bulbs at at the Indoor Sun Shop, and how much are they?
