Hi Tony,

It was just a guess, because it does look like a human bruise.  And he gets 
skittish when there
is lots of movement in the room - he darts about sometimes [forgot to mention 
he's in a regular
55 and he's about 3-4" long].  I do have a heater, its in the corner by the 
outflow - I have
never seen him hang out near there.  He used to hang out on the other end of 
the tank below a
piece of drift wood that kinda bows and makes like a cave.

What happened to your African?  Did he heal?  Did you notice any behavior 
differences?
