HiOne thing to figure out is what the cutoffs are for the various sheet sizes the shop gets plexi in-if you make the tank 50" long vs 54" long, do they need the next size up sheet to make it, which could double the price as well as result in lots of wasted material? Adding a few inches in any direction can seriously increase the price of materials. Same goes with picture framing, glass and mats come in standard dimensions and a long skinny piece costs as much as a huge piece in most shops. Does this make sense? Used to work in a frame shop, we got used to calculating for maximum value... Does the tank maker have a solid warrantee or do you need to add the risk of damage if it fails to your homeowners/renters insurance? And most important-the pros know how much material you need at the top to brace it, it should be thick, and should be planned to go with your lighting as if you heat the cross braces with super hot lights like mercury vapors and then splash cold water on the hot brace you could lose the tank... things the DIY person might not take into account. That is one good argument for pendant lighting, you can hang it over the open areas away from the cross braces. The pros should be able to calculate the required thickness of both braces and sides. Heed this guy's warning... http://www.globaldialog.com/~jrice/oddity_page/break.htm Sounds like it's a good idea to let these guys know what your final plans for lighting are and to clear upgrades with them, and if anything goes wrong call them to fix it or advise. This website convinced me that I don't want to wing it myself... buried in his site are the formulae and methods used for engineering big tanks, kind of interesting if you want to get technical. So when it is installed hide every magna scraper you own and make a bin of stuff for this tank so a well meaning friend or neighbor doesn't "help" you clean it! :)

The LFS will get the quote for you and get back to you after you tell them what you are looking for. Kind of round about but it works. There is a company in Portland Or if you want to drive that far to get it. Innovative Aquarium Products 5883 State Hwy 303 Suite 201 Bremerton, WA 98311 360-373-4144 However they usually only do tanks for wholesale as their stuff is soldatvarious stores in the area.
