Hi everybody, Got back from long trip to southwest. Desert was very pretty this year with lots of flowers and birds. Also unusually warm for so early we got to see at least 3 kinds of rattlesnakes. I looked at Colorado river display which was full of java looking moss. Looked very much like the "Christmas tree" stuff. Couldn't find any one at the exhibit that could tell me if it was really from that biotype. The pupfish at salt springs in death valley were very active. Was able to watch what looked like males guarding nest of fry and one area that was very shallow but still moving water that had hundreds of fry, variety of sizes and one male, guarding them, I think, becasue he was running any other adults away that tried to enter the area. Looking forward to the seeing everybody at May meeting. I have a tiger salamander and a great plains toad that will need homes by July. They go into hibernation at that time and as my house is likely to be sold before they come up next spring, I want to find good homes for them this summer. They both are very tame, especially the salamander who will crawl into your hand. They have lived for 15 years (not kidding about their ages) in my greenhouse and will make someone great pets and on the bright side at that age, you can let your kids take one with assurance that they will be gone in another 5 years or so. ;-> I can probably come up with free 15 or 20 gallon aquarium to house each one. So if any one is interested or has contact to local "fibby" club, please let me know.
