If you are fighting green-water, then most likely you have a nutrient imbalance (if you are growing plants). Usually green water appears in Nitrate limited tanks, and so Nitrates are actually ADDED to remove the green-water. It seems counter-intuitive unless you think about how all the macro-nutrients interact with the growth cycle of plants.
