I have several Daphnia cultures that I've been maintaining for almost a year. These were wild-collected critters given to me by a co-worker who harvested them from a vernal pond in Magnusen Park. One of them had started to wind down so I'd been giving it green water from my goldfish pond. I had read a bit on some website (following a circuitous path of links) that recommended using sweet potato baby food. So, I tried it. Took a finger swipe of baby food mush, swirled it in water to make a yummy orange mess (and suspend as much of the stuff in the water as possible), and dumped it in with the Daphnia. I've been doing this for about 4 days now....and I swear the Daphnia population has doubled! I've used Spirulina tabs soaked and smooshed in water as food in the past. But I've never had such a big rebound. Coincidence? What do you all use to feed your Daphnia cultures?
