I had a friend who was using well water with no problems, until one day...Then a lot of her fish died suddenly, after a water change. I thought she had a problem with some toxin in the fish tank, so we did another water change. MORE fish died. Finally, she went to the store and got some dechlorinator/heavy metal remover/etc. and that solved the problem. I recommended that she take a water sample to the health department, which she didn't do for financial reasons. I've grown Vals in red sand, from a red rock quarry, and it did great. Too well actually. It took over the tank! I may have some extra to trade at our possible Swap Meet the board has been proposing. Otherwise, it's $10 for 3.5 gallons. I have three buckets available of it. Hello all I have a couple questions I hope one or some could answer for me. First, I have a discus that for some reason is racing around the tank like crazy. He is still eating and doesn't have any noticeable spots or the like. The odd thing is I have had two dicsus die within a month of each other and they did the same racing around before they perished, with no noticeable problems before hand. I perform a 50% water change weekly and all other water perimeters are within range. I am on well water so my thought would be something in the system that acures in the summer time. I have had the fish since last fall, with no issues up too last month. Ideas? The second question is a little easier. Has anyone grown Vallisneria in a sand substrate before? How did it due? Any details would be appretiated.
