Re: [GSAS-Member] crawdads

Some of these types of critters can't complete the moult without iodine. If you can get ahold of any kind of marine aquarium iodine supplement dose that at half strength. According to Az Aquatic Gardens this is the way to go, dosing either one time a week at half strength or full strength every other week or after water changes. I use Kent Marine's version, though there are many and chemically they should be about the same. Lugol's from the pharmacy is overly strong, the stuff for aquariums is diluted and of course more costly. I don't know if the one which is stuck will make it but I would isolate it til it does so it doesn't get picked on. Even if it doesn't make it the other as well as any aquatic shrimp will benefit from this nutrient. Anyone know if plain old iodized table salt at a tsp/gallon would cut it? I use non-iodized salt and then dose with iodine, maybe I don't need two products...

Hello-

Our daughter Emma was one of the lucky ones which got
o bring home 2 crawdads this summer from the
picinic...they are both doing very well, and seem to
be happy.

My question is how long does it take for them to shed
their outer skin. One of them is in the process of
doing this now. The bottom half has come off, but it
is working on the top half now. We noticed this
earlier today.

Thanks!

Trish
