[GSAS-Member] Must-see tank

Here's a tank that no one who is into freshwater planted aquariums should miss seeing if at all possible.I guarantee you'll be impressed! This is a fifteen hundred gallon acrylic tank. it's approximately sixteen feet long x four feet x four feet, made of acrylic that is about in inch and a half thick. It's a fully planted community tank. Plants: Huge thriving, expanding colonies of crypts and java fern, quite a few big anubius - at least two types, a grove of giant val, lots of lush rotala indica (I think), hygro polysperma, some swords plus more that I just don't recall. And not a speck of algae anywhere! Fish: A school of somewhere around a hundred silver hatchetfish, maybe more, is probably the main fish attraction, plus schools (!) of otocinclus cats and various tetras. There are about 25-30 nice sized altums (in rough shape, unfortunately), lots of cory cats (many species), hemiodus, some rainbows, and more. This tank is located at the Triple Door, a nightclub next to (and part of) the Wild Ginger restaurant at third and union, downtown seattle. They open at four. Contact the Wild Ginger for more details. Ask about the "Musiquarium". Tom and I stopped in there Tuesday before the dinner and we were both absolutely blown away. It was tough to leave. There's a parking garage almost right next to the Triple Door, and another one at the foot of Union that only charges $2 an hour. Best to take a small car for that one. I had some tense moments maneuvering my full size pickup in there. Unfortunately, being a nightclub, I suppose they only allow those over 21 in, but maybe special arrangements could be made to let underage people in. I got the name of the owner of the Wild Ginger/Triple Door who apparently takes care of the tank himself, with the assistance of one of the bartenders.I'll try to contact him and see if he's willing to share the details and answer questions about the tank, maybe even give a talk at a GSAS meeting. Sorry to get on such a soapbox about this tank. When you see it, you'll understand. Definitely worth the price of a couple of drinks!
Bob
