The possible causes for a fish getting a hollow belly are just numerous enough that I hat to try to list them, but I think I will just because you may be wondering too. The things that come to mind are: internal worms like Capillaria, gill flukes, low level Velvet (Oodinium) infections, or some exotic disease like a microsporidian. The only Darios that I've dissected were some of Betty's. So I don't really know what the odds are of any of these diseases. The problem is that it could easily be some other internal disorder that is responsible, maybe even a mineral problem. Since it is a female it reminds me of that TV commercial where they say "Women need more calcium." That's true in fish when the females divert some nutrients into egg production. As for Dave's one bloated fish- it's hard to say what happened there. I hate to hypothesize. It might have even gotten hungry over the weekend and eaten something that wasn't edible. Hard to say.
