I raised the pH in my Endler's tank by
1) removing the dead brown-looking java moss I got from a mail-order
vender who told me to just be patient and it would green up (weak grin)
2) doing 1 gallon gater changes morning and afternoon in my 12g Eclipse to
ease up the pH....our tap water here is between 8.0 and 8.6
3) adding a bit of crushed coral in a media bag in the filter tray of the
Eclipse...and I slowly added more over several days so I wouldn't get a
huge change suddenly
all that brought it up slowly from 6.6 or so to close to 7.0
Fish perked up, no more losses and I get females, although I do get more
males than females
