[GSAS-Member] replacing charcoal

Now that I removed the charcoal from my canister and power filters,
I am planning on filling the media holders with polyester fiber.

Two questions:
1. Is this a good choice, or is there a natural alternative?
2. What is an inexpensive source. If I use the polyester, I was 
thinking of
the pillow stuffing material they sell at fabric stores.
