Hey Al,
   I have a similarily sized tank (60"L  24"T  24"W--150Gal) very well 
planted, and my plants thrive.  I have 4 96W compact flourescent bulb (with 
reflector) that are all on for 12hrs (11hrs overlap time).  I have two 
AquaClear 500 on-the-back filters.  I must admit, I'm pretty lazy when it 
comes to water conditions.  I change 50% of the water 1x/week and do not 
treat with anything additional (except P.A.T.).  When I set up the tank 3yrs 
ago, I used a 50% Flourite--50% gravel mixture for the substrate.  I've had 
success growing all kinds of plants from vals and swords to crypts and 
several annubias species.  Please feel free to contact me and I'd be happy
