I don't think flakes will work till they're frogs (and not tadpoles.) 
Powdered foods, maybe.
Daphnia will be relished. As for plastic buckets, home depot is fine, and a 
lot of the killi keeper use rubbermaid sterilite containers (anything food 
grade is fine).
