> I just wanted to suggest that those of you who haven't tried red cherry shrimp, consider taking Susan up on her offer of juveniles! I got 12 from her and set up two shrimp only tanks....one at home and one at work. I've kept these shrimp in the past but they've been in fish tanks with predators so I saw no progeny. This time I'm going fish-less and we'll see what happens. The seem to be more red already but that may be my imagination! 1. (work)2 gallon glass bowl with compact flourescent galaxy light. No filtration, no heater. Unheated tanks at work stay around 75F. Fine gravel, java moss, hornwort trimmings and one mystery plant that Susan gave me a cutting from. 5 shrimp including the 2 largest I got from Susan. I do 50% water changes daily and sprinkle in a bit of freshwater salt. I know these guys hate nitrogenous waste, so do the water changes as soon as I get to work. The java moss has thread algae and the shrimp seem to come out to the surface of the java moss after the water change. They are constantly working on the java moss and seem quite content and the little bowl is very pretty. Poor optics....wavery glass! So, I just ordered one of the Deco-Art Treasure Box tanks and might try that instead. I give the shrimp a teeny sprinkling of fish food flakes occasionally. Just ordered some Kent Iodine to give them a drop of that stuff too. Fingers crossed! My favorite of the two tanks. 2. (home) 2.5 gallon acrylic mini-bow with natural light. Sponge filter, heater to 78F. This was my honey gourami rearing tank and has been set up for over a year. Last baby gourami taken out roughly 1.5 months ago. A tinge of green-water. Some hornwort trimmings and thread algae infested java moss. I don't see the shrimp as often in this tank...but I've got 7 in here and we'll see what happens. I do about 1/2 gallon water changes daily. I'll try some Crab Cuisine in there to see if they home in on it like my Amano shrimp do in a larger tank here at home.
