With all the planted tank talk, I wanted to send you all some links. I read and post on AA (Aquarium Advice). A while back I saw the photos of "travis simonson" and fell in love with his planted African tank. Yes, Africans and plants living as one :) He's got an area without plants he refers to as "the sandbox" where the fish excavate and leave the rest of the tank with well-rooted, happy plants. The fish also have some tunnels under the rock and wood. Travis says that once carpet has grown in the fish aren't very interested in digging, possibly because it's inconvenient. Also keep the plants free of algae or they'll go after that. Aside from a few plants, he has had great success. But you can read all of this stuff in his posts if you're interested. It's certainly no biotope, but it's absolutely stunning in my opinion. The main post: <http://www.aquariumadvice.com/viewtopic.php?t=39189&highlight=african+plant ed> http://www.aquariumadvice.com/viewtopic.php?t=39189&highlight=african+plante d His gallery on AA: <http://www.aquariumadvice.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=8062 &thumb=1> http://www.aquariumadvice.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=8062& thumb=1 His website: <http://gofish.fibervault.com/> http://gofish.fibervault.com/ And some details on the tank here: <http://www.aquahobby.com/tanks/e_tank0411.php> http://www.aquahobby.com/tanks/e_tank0411.php And I have some questions - Can anybody tell me the name of the planted tank websites and mailing lists Paul mentioned? I was sure I would remember, but I should have written them down. I also would like a copy of that CO2 graph. Are the PP presentations the speakers prepare ever available for viewing after their lectures? If they were on the website or somewhere I would love to browse them and get a little refresher course on my own time :) Is there a site similar to fishbase only for plants? Also, one for invertebrates like snails and shrimp (and other saltwater species) would be great too. If such sites exist Steev would probably love the links for the newsletter too! Thank you to Paul (and others?) for the fabulous plants. The plants Ben and I won last month are growing so I'm very excited to try some more varieties. The fish seem to enjoy the additions as well. I found this site to look up what variety they are: <http://www.plantgeek.net/plantguide.php> http://www.plantgeek.net/plantguide.php. I'm still having a heck of a time though. So many look alike to me... Holly ~ _______________________________________________ GSAS-Member mailing list GSAS-Member@thekrib.com http://lists.thekrib.com/mailman/listinfo/gsas-member
