Re: [GSAS-Member] Plants

Holly:

Thank you, it was a pleasure to give the talk. I would be more than happy to
give to the .ppt file but it is large (~140Mb) so I could compress it maybe or
or burn it to CD. I would like to point out that Eric does a fantastic job
recording many of the talks and has a DVD or CD of past talks. (The AGA
showcase looks great Eric!)

Under "getting involved" I listed plantedtank.net (Blueram) and aquaticplantcentral.com
(Blue) and there are many others (including the AGA forum just announced) There are ~5 Seattle
members of plantedtank that meet every so often so lots of ways to get involved. I just placed an
order for some ADA substrate (you though fluorite was expensive). The group also received a guided
tour of the trippledoor aquarium (1,900 gal) including the filtration and lighting. Yes, my
affectionate name for these individuals is "plantnut."

There are things we can do as a club also. I am really excited about native fish and
have been waiting a long time for some pygmy sunfish to make themselves known (and to get
my employment settled). The problem is that shipping is often more than the fish! So as
a club we can "buy in bulk" so to speak.

The CO2 chart was produced by Chuck Gadd.

Part of the excitement of free plants in figuring out what you have. You can
email me with a description and I will send back what I think it is
(Kasselman's book) or you can look at tropica.com or
http://plantedtank.net/plants.html. As with African chiclids, there is still
some confusion. Right now, petshrimp.com is a good place for shrimp info.
Freshwater shrimp are just becoming popular. There are several others (crystal
reds) that I would like to try but again, shipping cost more than the shrimp!

Ok, back to work.
-Paul

And I have some questions -

Can anybody tell me the name of the planted tank websites and mailing lists
Paul mentioned? I was sure I would remember, but I should have written them
down. I also would like a copy of that CO2 graph.

Are the PP presentations the speakers prepare ever available for viewing
after their lectures? If they were on the website or somewhere I would love
to browse them and get a little refresher course on my own time :)

Is there a site similar to fishbase only for plants? Also, one for
invertebrates like snails and shrimp (and other saltwater species) would be
great too. If such sites exist Steev would probably love the links for the
newsletter too!

Thank you to Paul (and others?) for the fabulous plants. The plants Ben and
I won last month are growing so I'm very excited to try some more varieties.
The fish seem to enjoy the additions as well. I found this site to look up
what variety they are: <http://www.plantgeek.net/plantguide.php>
http://www.plantgeek.net/plantguide.php. I'm still having a heck of a time
though. So many look alike to me...
