To Matt and Trish, I have some caves in the 130 ive put in there on purpose, the YOYO's especially need their OWN hidey spots or they get upset and aggressive. The adult bristlenoses that produced those babies are at least twice the size of what you guys got and fend for themselves REALLY WELL! The cave they picked to breed wasn't really a cave, I have a rock that I had leaning against the side of the tank that had a Crook in the bottom, barely big enough to fit one bristy.. they literally dug out the gravel under the rock and built themselves their own cave. They then attached their eggs to the underside of the rock and the male and female protected it for months. I've had I guess around 4 batches.. However once the babys hatch they only stay in the cave for a short while, and im sure most get picked off by the other fish at night as the babies venture out of the hole. The babies I brought were from the last batch I had a few months ago when there was a substantial amount of java moss in the tank, which is where most of the babies found refuge. Since then the babies got bigger and have been using the same cave they were born in to hide in and the parents haven't really done much, not to mention the hole got really big from the clowns squeezing their fat bodies under pushing and disturbing the adult bristys. Best bet is to try and supply as MANY caves and nooks as possible because as soon as the other fish in the tank start disturbing the bristlenoses cave they wont breed there. Matt, driftwood, rocks and plants make great caves.. plants are the most efficient way to make places for the fish to hide if you have enough :) ~DREW -----Original Message----- From: gsas-member-bounces@thekrib.com [mailto:gsas-member-bounces@thekrib.com] On Behalf Of Trish Sent: Thursday, January 12, 2006 12:39 PM To: Greater Seattle Aquarium Society member chat Subject: RE: [GSAS-Member] Albino Bristlenoses Update I have a dark Bristle nose female {she needs a male}in a 90 gallon tank, had for now for about 5 years...she is smaller than the ones I got from you Tuesday! The Albino ones are having a great time in their new tanks. Will be switching around the males I alread had, this weekend so they can have a female out of your batch! I wanted to ask you, did you do anything special for them to breed, or did you jsut let them do their thing? And they protected the eggs and young ones? If I remeber correctly you said you had them in a 130 gal community tank? So are their any aggressive fish in their with them? I keep mostly africans this is why I ask. Oh and can regualr and albino breed together? When you get more babies......I'll be interested in some more if possible.I'd like to add some to my 125 gallon.
