Re: [GSAS-Member] Killies and salt

I bought a 50 pound bag of Diamond Crystal brand "solar salt" at a feed store. It also says "Extra Course for water softeners." From the ingredients, it looks like sea salt, but much cheaper. It was a few dollars for the whole bag, from a feed store about 3 years ago. Some table salt contains aluminum as an anti-caking substance, but I think it is clearly marked.

Mark, Dave or Steeve,
Can I use standard old Kosher salt for the killies or should I get aquarium salt? The only thing other than salt in it is some kind of "anti-caking agent". Other than that I heard it is much better to use than the regular table salt.

From my reading on the subject, the anti-caking agent is probably
prussic acid. Whatever it is, it is bad news.

Diamond kosher salt is 100% pure salt, last time I bought it. Morton's
Canning and Pickling Salt is the same, though it is fine grains instead
of the big kosher salt flakes.

(I had to learn all this some years ago when I treated an ich outbreak.)

Best,
Matt
