I probably wouldn't chose a goldfish if I were you. If you don't know already goldfish want to grow to about 12" or more and you'll just end up stunting there growth. Goldfish are also very 'catholic' in their diet, and would probably end up wanting to munch your algae and the shrimp that are crawling around on it. I would try a guppy or a real small barb of some sort (not tiger barbs!), or maybe even a white cloud or two(Tanichthys albonubes). Temperature would be something I would be paying close attention to.
