To some degree this is already happening with a few fish.  For example ask how 
many people ended up with "Bob's Endlers" (Thanks Bob!).  There also seems to 
be a good number of Angels (and other cichlids) at the moment.  However what 
the club is not doing at this very moment is a focused activity.  I believe 
NANFA (NANFA.org), AKA (aka.org), ALA (livebearers.org), and others (please 
post!) have species maintenance programs or something similar.  For example the 
NANFA speaker suggested that there are currently no organized efforts to 
maintain the Olympic Mudminnow and a local club would be a good place to start.
