One of my co-workers down in the genetics lab here at AFSC said this would be a relatively simple graduate student project assuming that the other cyprinids potentially involved in such a 'cross' are available as well. I'm not a genetics guru....but believe her. They've been bred and fry reared....but no descriptions of the fry. Maybe because the fry grew up looking like the adults, and hence no evidence suggesting that hybridization was involved???? Who knows. I am not surprised that new species are coming out of that area. Heck, we're still finding brand new Ziphiid whales within the past 5 years. But what do I know (wink).
