I've not tried Ameca spendens as this is a fish that get WAY TOO BIG for
my tanks. But I've used red cherry shrimp on tanks with hair algae with
great results. It takes quite a few shrimp to make a dent though. And they
haven't totally eliminated it....just kept it under control.

I have a pair of Amanos in only ONE of my tanks and there is NO hair algae
to speak of in that tank.
