I've had both and boy it's tough.. I agree on the canister situation on most accounts but another thing to consider is "Prefilters" on the AquaClears.. I use these with my fish tanks.. Don't really mess at all with the Filtration, just clean the Prefilters and how much depends on the load... I have the Newer AquaClears with the Ceramic Rings included.. Prefilters are a "Sponge" that you can get at www.jehmco.com.. along with various attachments.. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bryan Nichols" <b_monius_funk@yahoo.com> To: "Greater Seattle Aquarium Society member chat" <gsas-member@thekrib.com> Sent: Monday, January 21, 2008 3:49 PM Subject: Re: [GSAS-Member] Going Canister? > Well I feel it is easier because with my Filstar I simply disconnect the > hoses with the easy disconnect valve then I can take the whole unit to the > sink without spilling any water or disturbing anything in the tank. > Disconnecting this way also keeps any of the dirty filter water that might > be in the filter from getting back into the tank. > > Another thing that is nice about canisters is that you can mix and match > your media to your exact preferences.
