Hi Paul, I can come as early as necessary, and would be glad to help out-- as long as it doesn't get in the way of my bidding! I love the club auctions, and have been waiting for a "big" auction since joining... > In the beginning, the plant auction was formed to > be a special event for members in the days that plants were still rare and > or mistreated at retail outlets. While plants are certainly easier to > find now I still think I usually see as many interesting varieties at our small auctions as in the shops...and I would definitely say the auction plants tend to be in better shape, in larger quantities, and less expensive. (not that I'm knocking the shops, this is a niche market) When I first got into planted tanks I would just expect that no matter how good they looked, most of the plants I'd purchase were in the process of dying. Maybe it was just my lack of finesse, but nearly everything I'd buy would "melt", and then slowly start over growing back into a healthy plant. Almost all of my GSAS auction plants have taken right off, despite the condition changes and neglect they receive here...
