A shelf > along the edge would provide that place to brace themselves. Luckily, I think my stock tanks are high enough off the ground so that raccoon incursions are unlikely...even with some bonus shelf space for marginal/bog plants on the edges. And they are deep enough so not even the largest raccoon could ever reach the bottom (unless they came with dive gear). Even with my little mini-ponds at my old house where raccoons were MUCH more obvious, they never got into the goldfish. Those ponds were as high as the usual whiskey barrel. Stock ponds are much higher when you get into the 100 - 150g sizes. One of the primary reasons I prefer above ground ponds...GEESE. These above ground mini-ponds are high enough to keep my domestic geese out. And I have to let the geese into the area where my ponds are to do the mowing chores (so I don't have to!). Maybe I'm setting myself up for disaster by saying these things......(frown) Betty Goetz _______________________________________________ GSAS-Member mailing list GSAS-Member@thekrib.com http://lists.thekrib.com/mailman/listinfo/gsas-member
